Aulacopleura koninicki Silurian Proetid Trilobite

Name: Aulacopleura koninicki

Class Trilobita (Trilobites), Trilobite Order Proetida, Family Aulacopleuridae

Geological Time: Silurian

Size: 18 mm long by 15 mm wide on a 37 mm by 39 mm matrix

Fossil Site: Liten Formation, Kosov, Czech Republic

This is a particularly well preserved specimen of a member of the Order Proetida, Family Aulacopleuridae, known as Aulacopleura koninicki. Not that essentially all of the exoskeleton is preserved as a rich white patina that contrasts well with the dark matrix. Some examples of this trilobite have been found in Africa and Greenland, showing that it had a more global range than many others from the region of the Czech Republic.
