A
detailed example of a member of the Order Corynexochida, Family
Oryctocephalidae, this is the trilobite Changaspis placenta. Notice
the pleural spines which possibly enabled it to stay at the seafloor
surface, much like the function of snowshoes. When the trilobite
was enrolled, these same spines would have presented a mouthful
for any would-be predator.
