Rare Big-Eyed Bohemian Cyclopyge Trilobite

Cyclopyge bohemica

Trilobites Order Asaphida, Superfamily Asaphoidea, Family Ceratopygidae

Geological Time: Middle Ordovician

Size: trilobite 8 mm

Fossil Site: Dobrotiva Formation, Rokycany, Czech Republic

Cyclopyge bohemicaDescription: This is one of my favorite trilobite species. To begin with it is a petite species. What makes it so fascinating are the enormous eyes it possessed. Not only are they large, but also, they are on the sides, not the top, of the cephalon. Normally they are not visible with most found specimens. They are buried within the matrix. This one does show the top of the right eye. This is a rare and unusual species of Asaphid, and would be a wonderful addition to any sophisticated collection.
