Osteolepis are fish fossils and tetrapod ancestors that lived during the Devonian. Those found Scotland are famous fossils, for example Osteolepis macrolepidotus and Osteolepis panderi. This drawing of Osteolepis fragments is by Heinz Christian Pander, a famous Russian paleotologist (1794-1865). You will find many other fossils carry his namesake, e.g., the Russian Ordovician trilobite Cybele panderi. |
